A Message from Our Pastor
Are You Ready?

If your neighbor who doesn’t go to church happens to stop you one day to ask why you are a Christian, what you believe, and how it is different from other religions, would you be ready to answer?

If you suddenly found the fabric of your life unraveling; if the loss of a job, your health, an important relationship, or, God forbid, the loss of a loved one, suddenly and unexpectedly placed you in the “valley of shadows,” is your relationship with God such that you could lean on and trust Him to walk with you and to lead you back into the light?

If your church called on you to use your spiritual gifts to serve the mission of Jesus Christ in a new ministry, would you: a) know what your spiritual gifts are, and b) be ready to make the time to serve in that way?

During the next few months, we will engage in a sermon series entitled “Being Ready.” We will explore ways in which we can grow in spiritual wisdom and maturity so we can be ready to trust Jesus to walk beside us in both good times and bad, and follow Jesus wherever he calls us to go as his disciples. I’ve divided the series into three segments: “Fixin’ to Get Ready,” “Getting Ready,” and “Being Ready.” We will explore what it means to be mature Christians, living by the wisdom of God’s Word, strengthened for the journey of following Jesus Christ.

Each week’s sermon will be available on the church website, www.firstpreshp.org, in print and audio formats, so if you miss a Sunday or two, you can stay up-to-date. I believe this is the most important sermon series I have preached in the nearly 14 years I have been your pastor. I believe the future of your personal faith and the future of our ministry as a church will be enriched by this series, and I hope you will make every effort to worship with us each Sunday morning.

I am so grateful and privileged to be your pastor, and thank you for your continuing love and service!
